* MUCH MORE about this people group at the JOSHUA PROJECT
Opportunity was knocking for the Kyrgyz people! The Soviet Union fell, and they now had their own nation in 1991. These people, most of whom had survived as nomads or subsistence farmers/herders for generations, wanted to make a better life for themselves and their children. Two to three hundred thousand Kyrgyz migrated to the outskirts of Bishkek, the capital city, where they built improvised homes and hoped for good jobs. Some 15 years later, many of these homes remain uncared for without basic electricity or water.
These Kyrgyz are nomads at their best, but now they are trapped in the city, without the resources they knew as hard working farmers and herdsmen. The Kyrgyz maintained their tradition and social structure merely by word of mouth. Clans and tribes are close knit. They live best when they are close to the land and to each other. By heritage most Kyrgyz are folk Muslims, practicing a mixture of Shi'ite Islam and shamanism, looking to elders and shamans for spiritual guidance.
May Christ's truth and light reach the highest mountain peak and the lowest valley where the Kyrgyz live.
Pray for apostles to live among the Kyrgyz so they may hear the gospel of peace and follow the Good Shepherd.-JC
Jud. 13:5
"The boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth"
The birth of Samson was announced to his parents in a special way because he was a special son. He was to deliver his people from their enemies, the Philistines. In the same way that Samson was set apart from birth for God's special purposes, we have been set apart by our "new birth." We are "sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy" (1 Cor. 1:2). God wants to use us in a special way to accomplish His purpose among the nations. He has set us apart for service as well as for worship.
Lord, we belong to You. You gave Your life for us. Now we give our lives back to You. Use us to bring hope and life to those who now do not know You.
